Review For Kolekto Magazine: New York City Apartment/Bristol

It’s been a bit quiet at Bellyful of Art for the past few weeks and that’s because I’ve been scribbling away for a couple of other publications, Kolekto Magazine and Good On Paper.

Kolekto is an online magazine specialising in art, film, music and style and my first article for them is a review of South Korean artist Do Ho Suh’s thought-provoking installation, New York City Apartment/Bristol:

Displacement is not a new emotion. Perhaps we have all experienced it to a greater or lesser degree at some point in our lives; like a piece in a puzzle that doesn’t quite fit, we scour our surroundings in search of something to anchor us, only to find ourselves lost. At Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, South Korean artist Do Ho Suh attempts to express his own relationship with displacement by encouraging viewers into a world of green and red polyester, an environment that is at once both reassuringly familiar and disturbingly alien.

Read it in full here.

If you’re interested in spreading your writing wings and feel capable of producing an article that fits into one of Kolekto’s main topics then send them an email – they’re always on the look-out for new writers.

Unfortunately, you’ll only catch Good On Paper if you live in Stroud, Gloucestershire. It’s a fantastic (free) publication that’s been very stylishly put together and focuses on art, literature, music and theatre in the local area. My first piece for them will feature in their June issue and is an extremely interesting interview (if I do say so myself!) with letterpress printer and poet, Dennis Gould. Though I hope to continue to write for both publications in the future, I am currently trying to work out a schedule so that Bellyful of Art does not continue to suffer as a consequence. In the meantime, thank-you to everyone for your continual readership and support, it’s great to know that there are people out there taking an interest in my writing!!!
